Profile of Liza
Liza Adams has been playing with gorgeous fibres for almost 5 years. The bulk of her work is miniature bears but she is branching out into other areas and now you can learn how to do a myriad of techniques with different fibres too.
About me - I'm a 30 something Mum from Hamilton, I have 3 young children, a part time job, and a passion for all things felted!
I have been making mini bears for almost 5 years and teaching night classes for 2. I exhibit my work at local shows and have won a number of blue ribbons for some of my best bears! I sell internationally via my website and various online auction sites as well. My bears are in stores in Hamilton and are now living in homes all around the world too!
This 4 day class has been designed with the complete beginner or novice felter in mind, but anyone can enjoy and learn from the wide range of techniques and items being produced over this fun long weekend.
Learn the basics of needle felting. We will make basic ornaments and decorated balls which can be used for many things including Christmas decorations, childrens toys, pin cushions etc!
Make a miniature, jointed bear! Now that you have the basics you can learn how to sculpt shapes to form up a little bear, under 4 inches. These little fellows have a lot of character and are so much fun to make!
Time for something different. We will be wet felting over bars of soap. These make lovely gifts and can be used as normal soaps (lovely natural exfoliant) put into drawers to keep things smelling sweet, or popped into gift baskets etc. Bring along some different soaps from home, the more shapes and sizes the better! Once you have had a play with that we will wet felt some small pieces to use for our next project!
A needle and wet felted gnome. This little lady is felted up with a slightly different technique to give you a range of skills. She will then be dressed in the wet felted piece we made the day before. If we have some spare time we will also be making some felted badges, these are just gorgeous and you are limited only by your imagination. Butterflies, fishes, flowers, fairies. You can create anything you wish with this fabulous technique!
The course requires corriedale, Romney and merino wools. All will be supplied by your tutor and included in your kit costs.
Kit will include:
Foam Square to work on
3 grades of felting needles
Eye beads for your bear
Threads and flosses
Merino for Gnome and badges
Romney for Bear
Corriedale for ornaments and soaps
Water Soluble Stabiliser for badges
Kit cost is $30 and there will be many other gorgeous fibres available for you to purchase and take home to keep you busy. These wools are almost always hand dyed, unique blends that you canít find in stores and are available in $3 or $4 bags to save you the time and expense of buying in bulk! Students are free to contact me regarding supplies if they have some of their own they would like to bring!
