History

The Huntly Lions called a public meeting for 10 Oct 2001 at Civic Centre and from that formed a Huntly Seniornet Inc. This was made affiliated to Seniornet NZ Federation- an Incorporated Charitable Society. The planning started – Fund-raising needed, plus premises, computers and training material needed, plus Tutorial staffing and admin. support ASAP. Rooms were found but proved too expensive to upkeep with rent etc. More suitable premises were found in Ralph St next to Keith Mahon Painter with a landlord that was very interested in our operation. The premises needed painting and general tidyup which the committee and friends completed and they started with one computer. They managed to get 2 more computers thanks to Rangiriri Hotel and Genesis. Eventually we got 6 desktop computers with Community Funding The official opening by Mayor Peter Harris on 6th June 2002 and Grant Sidaway Seniornet NZ CEO and was a great asset to the Huntly Community. A 10yr plaque was presented to Pres. Peter Gregson. We shifted premises again to share Anglican Friendship House at 55 William St. Huntly. A friendly environment . In 2014 we shifted again to the Huntly Library -upstairs- Another friendly enviroment with new laptops thanks to Pub Charities Community Funding. The older 6 desktop computers we gave to local rural schools and they have put them to good use. 13 yrs on the Huntly Seniornet is still operational but like many Communities we struggle at times for Volunteers assistants and Funding. Yes the advance over the last 3 years in computer technology is frightening and challenging. We urgently need people to assist with the basics especially win 8.

Workshops with demos using Noel Leeming staff (Base) to show us latest new technology eg e-Books, i-Pods, Tablets, laptops, laptops, i-Pads, Smartphones are very beneficial to gathering new members or just those needing a refresher.,

Volunteers for assistent tutors needed urgently at Huntly Seniornet for basic computer courses

This is very rewarding for the tutor and a very good service for the older citizens 50+ in the community - often it is one on one. An ex office person or someone retired with a few computer clues. Supported by a committee and “Tutors Tutor"

This is very rewarding for the tutor and a very good service for the older citizens 50+ in the community - often it is one on one. An ex office person or someone retired with a few computer clues.
